Initiated by the awarding of the football World Cup 2022 to Qatar, a new transport system was planned in Doha with the aim of managing this event in terms of transport and taking into account the growing need for mobility in the capital, which is overloaded with traffic.
Tricon was able to assert itself in a global competition and, together with the renowned in-house design team of the manufacturer KinkiSharyo, designed the vehicles for the Mitsubishi consortium's application for the turnkey project.
After the Japanese consortium performed successfully in the tender and in intensive exchange with the local operator Qatar Rail, we were also able to accompany the entire implementation phase and develop the vehicles that went into operation in 2019.
Al Faras
Sophistication and openness deliberately meet local elements in the design: The interior and exterior design takes into account local cultural aspects in terms of form and the choice of colours, materials and patterns.
This stimulating field of tension results, for example, in the unique shape of the side windows, the specially adapted floor plans and also the front design of the metro. The head of "Al Faras", the Arabian mare, was the inspiration for this. He became the much-respected face of the new public transport system.

3 classes
The 3-class interior reflects the needs of the different user groups, with traditional seating arrangements and maximum comfort in Gold Class, special seats for children in Family Class and classic lengthways seating for high capacities in Standard Class.
The juries of the if, red dot and German Design Awards were particularly impressed by the quality of the design and its implementation – we are delighted with this triple award!
